Summary The Pre-K Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction to preschool-aged children in a Head Start and ISD/Charter collaborative classroom setting. This role focuses on advancing school readiness through intentional, engaging learning experiences that support the cognitive, physical, social-emotional, and language development of children ages 3?5. The teacher fosters a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment, collaborates with school district staff, and engages families in their child?s educational journey. Responsibilities include curriculum planning, child assessment, compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining detailed documentation in both agency and school district systems. The teacher also participates in professional development, contributes to school events and committees, and may take on leadership roles to support colleagues and overall program success.
Duties - Design and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences to promote school readiness in children ages 3?5
- Create a well-organized, safe, and inviting classroom environment that fosters intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development
- Align daily instruction with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and implement both group and individualized learning plans
- Collaborate with ISD staff to plan and post weekly lesson and small group plans using a predetermined curriculum
- Support family engagement by facilitating ReadyRosie access, conducting home visits, and producing monthly classroom newsletters
- Maintain consistent communication with families through conferences, meetings, and events (e.g., Meet & Greet, Open House)
- Participate in CLASS assessments and apply feedback to strengthen adult-child interactions and overall classroom quality
- Promote positive behavior and model appropriate social-emotional skills, conversation, and classroom routines
- Observe and assess child development; maintain accurate records and documentation in both CCA and ISD systems
- Supervise children during routines including meals, toileting, rest, and play while ensuring safety and hygiene standards
- Utilize technology and creative activities to support learning across all developmental domains, including physical, cognitive, and language
- Direct and support instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to ensure effective classroom management
- Ensure compliance with Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards, Head Start Performance Standards, ISD policies, and CCA requirements
- Attend required staff development, in-service trainings, and workshops to meet professional development goals
- Serve on campus-based committees and participate in team lead responsibilities as assigned
- Manage classroom logistics including attendance, lesson plans, assessments, and parent communication across systems
- Administer academic testing and support testing coverage throughout the year
- Conduct MHD referrals and maintain RTI/MTSS academic data tracking
- Create and enter report cards per ISD requirements
- Participate in daily arrival/dismissal duties, including safety protocols
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements - Bachelor?s degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field
- Valid Texas EC?6 Teaching Certification (Teacher II level)
- Proven experience teaching preschool-aged children in a classroom setting
- Strong understanding of child development and human behavior, with excellent expressive and receptive language skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with families, colleagues, and other stakeholders
- Proficient in using computers and digital tools for communication, documentation, and instruction
- Must meet all health and safety requirements, including:
- Passing a pre-employment and/or periodic physical exam
- Annual TB screening
- Background check every 24 months
Nice To Haves - Proven and exceptional experience teaching preschool-aged children in Head Start programs or ISD/Charter Pre-K settings, with preference for Head Start/ISD or Head Start/Charter collaboration classrooms
- Genuine enthusiasm for teaching and engaging with young children and their families
- Strong collaborative skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment; values diverse perspectives and demonstrates creativity and adaptability
- Successful track record of working with children and families from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
